Road Safety - What Every Parent Should Think About
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.
Last week, I read something in the news about an accident disabling a mother with 2 kids who were both less than 12 years of age. It broke my heart. I couldn’t imagine that happening to me. How would I take care of my daughter? She’s almost going to school and how could I drive her when my husband is at work?
With this, I had to search for something if in case this happens to me or a loved one. I came across NMEDA(National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association). They are a non-profit trade association that educate consumers on buying products from an NMEDA qualified dealer. They are the only association that promotes safe driving and equipment for disabled people. Their members are also required to adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
As I was continuing research I also found out that no two people with a disability are exactly the same and that we should be aware of adapted wheelchair vehicles sold over the Internet or through catalogues. In NMEDA, after a personalized “in-person” evaluation, a person can be sure that you are getting the right driving solution customized to your specific lifestyle and needs and if you need additional training or product refinements, your NMEDA dealer would also be there to help you. They can just easily help disabled people and/or elderly people to get back on the road of independence.
Another important thing that would come into mind when buying something is their quality right? Well if you’re going to get from NMEDA, you don’t need to worry cause NMEDA has this Quality Assurance Program (QAP) that is the only nationally recognized accreditation program for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry. It is based on the principle that in order to satisfy customers consistently, companies must have a systematic and documented approach to quality, which I totally agree upon. Every company should have their own QAP.
I was so sucked in this thing that I had to check if there are dealers nearby. Their site has this dealer’s locator, I tried to type in my ZIP code and yep, they had one. At least I’m sure that IF anything happens to me and I’d get disabled, I know where to run to. You should try and check out for yourselves too. Check their dealers locator if they have one near you. When one becomes a parent, it’s not only yourself that you worry about but your family, specially the kids.
