Keep Smiling

Smiling. One of the littlest things you notice about the people you meet everyday that means a lot to a number of people. I mean, smiling can be difficult too you know. I haven’t even thought of it being taken out of someone because of a certain disease.

TMJ or dysfunction for temporomandibular joint is that disease. The person diagnosed with such experience pain during movement of the jaw around its  surrounding muscles, ligaments and nerves. smilingMost people cannot move their jaws normally because they’re too stiff or swollen. There have been studies that found out the common causes for acquiring TMJ. First, it can happen when the jaw joint itself is worn out. Secondly, the TMJ may occur if the temporomandibular joint is not normal in shape due to injury. And third, the TMJ may occur in a human diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. There is even one study that stated depression can be a factor too.

Most people have TMJ suffer anomalies in their teeth, making it even more difficult to eat. A big NO to patients is chewing gum. I do think that is one of the things that would really push you to the limit of ever wanting to be normal like everyone else. Too much of everything can really result into something not good. Our mouths really play a very important role in our day to day lives. That’s like half of why we are even alive.

More and more treatments now are given to those diagnosed patients by physical examination, blood test and special jaw x-rays. Treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs to relieve pain and swelling make use of heat and muscle relaxants to relieve pain and tightness in the jaw muscles. Patients seeking correction with their teeth will be referred to an orthodontist. Those who experience the grinding teeth at night are prescribed a special plate bite. Surgical operation is performed only in extreme and painful cases, or if there is damage to the joints.

This is just one of those photographs you love to remember as happy smiling times. Simple things you should be thankful for. Don’t let those smiles just fade away. Call a dentist for TMJ problems.
