Our First Turkey!
Thursday. November 26, 2009.
Happy thanksgiving America! My Dad actually was given a free turkey by the company he works in. He got to claim it around three days before Thanksgiving. We had to place the turkey in the lower part of the refrigerator (because it was way frozen) for 2 days before Thanksgiving Day. So this is how a turkey looks like! I couldn’t even bare to touch it. I can hold any other chicken or meat when I’m doing the cooking - but this one made me very nauseous! So here’s what we did, rinse the turkey well, removed the inside neck parts and rinse the entire insides of it. Then you have to just dry it with a paper towel (totally dry it) and then rub around its body a lot of ginger as to give it a nice smell. Stuffings? My Aunt told me not to buy those stuffings because they won’t do well for first timers. We just inserted in some spices and some vegetables to give it a sumptuous taste. It was then baked for like 4 hours non stop. It has this automatic pop button that releases indicating that the insides are well cooked.
Auntie Thata, as we call her, is my Mom’s colleague way back during their office work days in Cagayan de Oro. It was a delight to her knowing we live in the same city in America. Bon appetit!
