Yzzy’s flight to Manila
July 27, 2009

All my bags are packed
I’m ready to go
I’m standin’ here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
Today is the most awaited day. Yzzy, Tabby and me will be leaving for Manila. Yet, this day is also a sad day for someone. And that is for my lola, Yzzy’s great grandma. She will be left here in Cagayan de Oro tolook for my mom’s house and ours. She really didn’t want to be left alone with only our maid Ann to keep her company. Oh well, I know my Mama (that’s what we all call her) knows how much she means to us. I know she will be very happy for us if we could finally meet our dad.
Today is also the day that we we’re about to take our first airplane trip with our seven-month-old baby.
I’ve come up with this helpful checklist you might also need when traveling with your little one:
1. Toys
One of the things you should have. About 1 or 2 of her favorite toys would do. Its better to keep her busy so she would not bug you. It is very essential for kids to have things that entertain them most especially that it would take them the whole travel to just sit down.
2. Seat choice
Its very wise to have your seat not along the aisle. It will save you from all the hassle when the crew and other passengers go passing along. It would even prevent any injury with your baby’s hand.
3. Food
My baby is in the stage of teething. She loves to eat finger foods. Thus, mommy should bring along some snacks for her to munch while on board. It would not be such a mess if you carry around with you clean disposable baby facial wipes and some disposable bags.
4. Ear pressure
If your baby is on a bottle or breastfeeding, give them the bottle or the breast for take-off & landing. It’s the best things for their ears and they will also be relaxed. If your child is big, then carry cotton or ask for earplugs as soon as you board the aircraft. Make use of them for take-off then save them for landing as the crew may not have any fresh ones left by then. This helps the kids tremendously if they don’t know how to pop their ears.
5. Bottle heating
This should not be quite a problem since most milk products for babies are pre-cooked. This means that you do not need hot water to get your baby’s milk done. Now, if your flight is scheduled during lunch time or dinner time, I suggest you just give your baby some milk earlier to keep her full. This will avoid her being so uneasy and upset why she is not given any food at all. It is very difficult to try to make her eat with a spoon and all. Pretty tough thing to do. Unless if you’re traveling for 16 hours or so!
6. Rubbish
Get a carrier / plastic bag from the crew, to put your garbage in and keep your area clean. Carry disposable bags to dispose of diapers and put them in the disposal bins afterward. This will really be of great help most specially because you can’t do a lot of walking on the plane.
7. Clothes
Make sure you get all these packed days before your scheduled flight. It would be best if you carry with you a separate bag that has 2-3 clothes in it. Every mom should be ready for any unexpected circumstances. (e.g. the jacket to provide warmth for your baby)
8. Health
Some babies need to take the doctor’s advice before leaving. Just so mommies would have an idea on the do’s and dont’s when traveling with babies. Medicines should also be present in the bag you are carrying to ensure you have all medical stuffs are with you when circumstances arise. Alcohol or hand sanitizer should also be with you as well as nappies, tissue, wet wipes, bandages, clean or sterilized cotton, cotton buds, etc.
Have all these checked already? Then you’re ready to go Wonder Mom! Have a safe trip..
